More motorcycle-friendly safety barriers

Post protectors
SWork has started on installing post protectors on various sections of the highways network, totalling 5.1 kilometres altogether

The Department of Town and Country Planning and Public Works (DPTOP) has started work on installing post protectors for motorcyclists on sections of the area's highways network totalling 5.1 kilometres. These works, which will finish next spring, involve an investment of 600,000 euros and fall within the framework of a programme being developed by the DPTOP to improve safety for motorcyclists.

Sections

Girona area counties

• GI-682: 773 metres in the municipal area of Lloret de Mar. The works, which have started, will take around 10 days.
• GI-550: 838 metres in the municipal area of Arbúcies. The works will start mid-January and will take ten days.
• C-35: 246 metres in the municipal area of Fogars de la Selva, in mid-January.

Central Counties

• B-520: 48 metres to be installed on the left side of a section in the municipal area of Santa Eugènia de Berga, in the county of Osona.
• C-55: works will begin around mid-February on 2 sections of 160 metres in the municipality of Navàs, in Bages, and in Pinós, Solsonès.
• B-402: installation on the left side of several sections (338 metres) in Guardiola de Berguedà. Works are planned to begin at the end of January.

Barcelona Metropolitan Area

• C-17: work will begin at the beginning of February on installing two sections located in the municipal area of Montcada i Reixac, in Vallès Occidental (288 metres).
• GI-600: several sections in the municipal area of Tordera (320 metres). Works will begin at the start of January.

Terres de l'Ebre

• C-12: 304 metres in the municipal area of Ascó, in Ribera d'Ebre, at the end of February.
• C-43: installation of 932 metres in Terres de l'Ebre. Specifically, 680 metres in the municipal area of Pinell de Brai and 252 metres in the area of Benifallet. Works are planned to begin at the start of March and will take eleven days.

Ponent

• C-13: 712 metres in various sections in Camarasa. Work will begin mid-February and will take approximately eight days.

In response to road safety needs, the Department plans to extend this programme over coming years. Next year, therefore, a further 1 million euros has been budgeted for the installation of this type of post protector at new locations on the highways network.
