The low-cost airline company, Ryanair, will create a new base for the company at Reus Airport, which will mean that up to 4 or 5 planes will develop their activity from the airport, meaning an important increase with regard to the number of connections. Specifically, the volume of weekly flights envisaged is 63, reaching 93 during the summer period.
The agreement for this new base has been set up between Ryanair, the Generalitat of Catalonia, Tarragona Regional Council, Reus Town Council and Reus Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to maintaining the current destinations, the agreement envisages new international routes to Paris, Stockholm, Oslo, Brussels, Rome, Milan and Dusseldorf, and new domestic flights to Seville, Santander, Jerez and Santiago de Compostela
Reus Airport has gradually increased the number of low-cost flights and the volume of passengers. According to a study on the activity of low-cost airline companies at Reus Airport between 2004 and 2007, the number of tourists that arrived with these companies who stayed on the Costa Daurada had increased, reaching 189,000 in 2007 compared to 85,000 in 2004.
