Fourteen new birdwatching itineraries have been designed

The Montsec Consortium has designed fourteen itineraries to guide visitors to the best birdwatching locations in Montsec.

The fourteen itineraries are grouped into two routes, one for the bearded vulture and one for the eagle.

  • The Route of the Bearded Vulture spreads over an 80-kilometre arch on the northernmost area of Montsec, covering Àger, el Coll d'Ares, Sant Esteve de la Sarga, la Guàrdia de Tremp, Cellers, l'obaga del Montsec de Rúbies, Sant Martí de Barcedana, l'Hostal Roig and Vilanova de Meià.

  • The Route of the Eagle stretches from east to west for 70 kilometres on the southern half of he Montsec, from Ivars de Noguera to Artesa de Segre, passing through Algerri, Os de Balaguer, Vilanova de la Sal, Gerb, Camarasa, Cubells and Foradada. Up to four different species of eagle can be seen, such as the golden eagle, the booted eagle, the short-toed eagle and Bonelli's eagle. Less than one thousand pairs of Bonelli's eagles still survive here in Europe and the few inhabiting Lleida, are to be found in Montsec.

Along each main route, which is taken by car, the visitors will find the seven itineraries marked out with small flags.

These fourteen birdwatching itineraries have been created to promote domestic tourism and they are targeted at visitors with an interest in birdwatching, a increasingly expanding collective. The United Kingdom is a good example, with more than one million memberships to birdwatching associations.
