  Getting closer to you
Catalonia is divided into seven health regions based on geographic, socio-economic and demographic factors.

n deciding on the regions, we also took into account the organisation or the provinces. The resulting health regions carry out their activities in the fields of planning, the purchase of services, management systems and customer service.

Health care regions
The health regions are well endowed with primary health care and specialised resources to meet the needs of the population. In turn, each region is organised into health sectors.

The health sectors

The health sectors are the areas in which activities to promote good health are developed and coordinated, along with preventative health, public health and health care at the primary and specialist levels. The health sectors are made up of a number of basic health areas.

Basic health areas (BHAs)
Basic health areas (BHAs) are the basic territorial units around which primary health care services are organised. They are territorial units formed by neighbourhoods or suburbs in urban areas, or one or more municipalities in rural areas.
Areas are determined by geographic, demographic, social and epidemiological factors, particularly according to the population's access to the services and the efficiency of the organisation of the health resources.
