Specialist care |
Specialist health care is citizens' second level of access to the health care system. |
| |
| |
Specialised care in the public health system includes:
Hospital care
Social health care
Psychiatric and mental health care
Drug dependency
Other specialised resource care
Pharmaceutical assistance
Specialised health care in Catalonia is provided through resources such as admissions, specialist day consultations, day-care at hospitals, emergencies and care at home, and has other support services, such as social health interdisciplinary functional units (SHIFUs) and programmes for home help and support equipment (HHSE).
|
| We are making headway in reorganising specialised care, with the incorporation of different specialities at reference hospitals. |
|
|
Most of these resources are organised by networks, such as the acute hospital network (AHN), the social health network, mental health network and network of assistance in drug dependencies (NADD), which |
| |
form part of the public health network.
The different networks that provide specific services through which health care is provided, can be combined and are complementary.
Combining resources
Specialised care is usually provided with a combination of admission resources. For example, after an elderly person has been in hospital, they may require a period of convalescence in a long- stay unit of a social health centre. After they have left there, they could be attended in a social health day hospital to extend the treatment provided.
