Promoting Donations and Transplants
European Donor Hospital Education Programme (EDHEP)
This programme was designed by Eurotransplant (an umbrella organisation that works with transplantation organisations in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Slovenia) and adapted to the situation in Spain by the Spanish National Transplant Organisation (ONT).
It consists of a monographic seminar on the donation-request process and is aimed at medical and nursing professionals working in critical-care units at hospitals. The seminar provides them with communication strategies they can use with the families of their patients: informing about the death of a family member, responding appropriately to the family’s pain, informing them about the value of organ donations and finally, requesting the donation.
Given the high success rate, the Catalan Transplant Organisation holds a number of EDHEP seminars each year at different procurement centres.
