1. The general framework | 2. The 3rd Research Plan for Catalonia (2001-2004)

2.4.2.6. Information society

Actions in this Selected Area which covers a wide range of multidisciplinary themes, are the responsibility of all Government Ministries of the Generalitat and will be co-ordinated by the Secretariat for the Information Society at the Ministry of Universities, Research and the Information Society.

Objectives

  • Developing infrastructures and communications networks, both fixed and mobile, allowing inter-modal access to broadband services. Promoting the development of a new generation of systems of mobile and cordless communications applicable in various fields.
  • Furthering R&D activities in the fields of micro-electronics, opto-electronics, nanotechnologies, radio-frequency and microwaves.
  • Promoting development of natural language technologies to improve interaction with services. Systems for a multilingual society. Promoting technology and tools to stimulate the creation of multimedia content.
  • Developing computer security systems to ensure secure communication and stimulate the introduction of electronic trade and access to public services.
  • To improve Catalan Government service provision by extending the use of ICTs.
