If you want to study outside Catalonia…
Currently, the majority of European countries are working towards the construction of the European Higher Education Area, which will lead to the adoption of a system of comparable university qualifications that will facilitate student mobility. There are different exchange programmes that facilitate transnational cooperation between universities, enhance the quality of higher education and provide academic and professional benefits and contribute to personal development. Within the framework of these exchange programmes, many young people form different places study all or some of their higher education in a foreign European country.

Socrates Programme
This programme fosters the mobility of students, teaching staff and education technicians and it also promotes cooperation between universities, schools and language schools, the development of mutual recognition networks and the exchange of experiences. Decision number 253/2000/CE of the European Parliament and Council, of January 24 2000, establishes the second phase of the Socrates Programme, which will be applied during the period from January 1 2000 to December 31 2006:
The actions included in the Socrates programme are the following: Comenius, Erasmus, Grundtvig, Lingua, Minerva and other joint actions.

Comenius Programme

Objectives:
To enhance the quality and reinforce the European dimension of school education, in particular by encouraging transnational cooperation between schools, contribution to improved professional development of staff directly involved in the school education sector, and to promote the learning of languages and intercultural awareness.

Erasmus Programme

Objectives:
To promote European mobility in higher education and enhance the quality of courses taught by European universities.

Grundtvig Programme

Objectives:
To promote the European dimension in lifelong learning and to contribute, by means of the broadening of transnational cooperation, to innovation and greater availability, accessibility and quality of other educational methods and through the promotion of language learning to serve as a complement to the Comenius and Erasmus programmes.
It is aimed at:
People that, at any stage of their life, wish to acquire knowledge or skills within the framework of formal or non-formal education or through self-study in order to enhance their professional insertion capacity and their aptitude to progress academically and to develop an active role in society.

Lingua Programme

Objectives:
To support measures related to language learning with the aim of contributing to the promotion and maintenance of linguistic diversity within the European Union, to enhance the quality of language learning and teaching and to facilitate access to lifelong language learning opportunities appropriate to each individual’s needs.
It is aimed at:
Language teachers and language teaching policy decision makers in all educational sectors.

Minerva Programme

Objectives:
To support measures related to Open and Distance Learning and the use of Information and Communication Technology, including multimedia technology, in education.

  • Mobility: Tempus Programme

    Objectives:
    To foster and coordinate exchanges and mobility of students and university teaching staff in the European Union with central and eastern European states in such a way as to promote collaboration between institutions and to multiply the teaching and learning opportunities of students and teaching staff throughout Europe.
    It is aimed at:
    Students, university teaching and administration staff.

  • Objectives:
    To create or reinforce common interest relationships by means of intensifying the dialogue between European and Latin American academic communities and to facilitate systematic cooperation mechanisms in higher education by promoting the creation of permanent mobility between the two continents.

  • Objectives:

  • Leonardo da Vinci Programme
  • Objectives:
    To enhance the quality and innovation capacity of systems, the promotion of lifelong training, the development and acquisition of language and key skills, the adaptation of training to social and technological changes, the use of information technology within the framework of open and distance learning, the training of unskilled young people and adults in danger of social exclusion and the transparency of qualifications.
    It is aimed at:
    Young professional training students, young workers seeking to acquire additional professional experience and trainers, planners and managers.
