5. Actions included in the 2001-2006 University Investment Plan

The 2001-2006 University Investment Plan specifies detailed actions involving new buildings, completion of work initiated under the previous plan, and expenditure on teaching equipment and campus development. The actions and the amounts allocated may be adjusted in the negotiation of investment agreements with the universities, but the total allocation for each university may not be changed.

In accordance with the objectives of the plan, each university will also be provided with funds for replacement and adaptation to ICT.

University of Barcelona

One of the main projects for the University of Barcelona is the construction of a new building on the site of the old Casa de la Misericòrdia. Various humanities programmes will be housed in this building.

It is also worth highlighting the completion of the extension of the old Sciences Building at the Pedralbes campus, which will add 20,000 m² of useable space, and the extension of the Faculty of Biology, also at the Pedralbes campus, which will add 3,500 m².

Autonomous University of Barcelona

The most noteworthy actions to be carried out at the Autonomous University of Barcelona are the completion of the general library including a periodicals section (4,400 m²,) and the Higher Technical School of Engineering, which will add 14,000 m² to the Bellaterra campus. An extension of the University Business School in Sabadell is also planned.

Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC)

For the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, the plan includes the allocation of funds for the completion of the Higher Technical School of Telecommunications Engineering at the Baix Llobregat campus, and the construction of other buildings on the same campus.

Funds have also been allocated for the substitution or extensive renovation (if a decision is made to maintain the current location) of the building that houses the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineering at the Pedralbes campus.

Another important action is the extension of the A0 building at the Pedralbes campus (north). The building will house classrooms and department offices for the Faculty of Information Science. Funds have also been allocated for the development of the area.

* Given that important decisions remain to be made regarding the best solution to the problems facing the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineering, the plan allocates funds for initial spending. Once the best solution has been determined, the indicated amount may be increased, with corresponding reductions applied to other items that are not used, or by allocating new specific resources or advancing funds from future investment plans.

Pompeu Fabra University

At Pompeu Fabra University, the emphasis is on completion of actions initiated at the Jaume I campus.

University of Girona

Priority actions at the University of Girona are directed at consolidating the Montilivi campus (library, shared services building, IT services building, shared classrooms) and remodelling and adapting the Barri Vell campus buildings. The Faculty of Educational Sciences is to be located at this campus.

University of Lleida

The priority area for action at the University of Lleida is the completion of the Cappont campus and the initiation of activity there: the plan allocates funds for the completion of the library (10,000 m²), Modules 2 and 3 (corresponding to the Faculty of Economic Sciences and the Faculty of Law), as well as shared classrooms and department offices.

Funds are also allocated for the construction of a new module at the Cappont campus. A services module is to be completed for the Higher Technical School of Agricultural Engineering at the Agricultural Science campus; and, finally, a department module is to be constructed for the Faculty of Medicine.

Rovira i Virgili University

Actions at Rovira I Virgili University will focus on the Sescelades campus where the Higher Technical Schools of Engineering and Chemical Engineering, the Faculty of Chemistry and the Faculty of Enology are to be located, as well as a building for shared services, classrooms and a shared library.

The plan also allocates funds for the initiation of activity at the new Faculty of Arts at the main campus
