University qualifications

Graduates, architects, engineers, three-year degree graduates (diplomats), technical architects or technical engineers can access the first course of first-cycle university course, or of the first and second cycles, by means of pre-enrolment.

Students who have more than one three-year degree qualification (diplomatura) or degree have to choose the one that is most appropriate for them.

Three-year degree graduates (diplomats) and graduates (llicenciats) or similar level who are in possession of another qualification that allows them access to university can make use of that possibility and have to present the documents accrediting the different courses.

The possibility exists of accessing the 2nd cycle of a different course from what has been studied, but in this case the pre-enrolment must be made directly in the centre that provides this course. It is thus not possible to obtain a place in the 2nd cycle through the University Pre-enrolment Office.

Students with a 1st cycle, a three-year degree qualification (diplomatura) or a degree who want to study audiovisual communication, humanities, journalism, publicity and public relations, and translation and interpretation, from any university, only have access to the 2nd cycle and thus are not eligible for pre-enrolment.

Students with a 1st cycle that gives them access to 2nd cycle courses cannot enter the 1st cycle of those courses but have to apply for access to the 2nd cycle directly to the centre.

For access to other university courses applied for by graduates, architects, engineers, three-year degree graduates (diplomats), technical architects or technical engineers this will be done with regard to the grade in the academic record of the university courses already completed and that grade is the result of averaging marks of the academic record.

Averaging marks the records of the three-year degree graduate (diplomats) and graduates (llicenciats) or similar level (path 2) according to Royal Decree 1267/1994, of 10 June

The weighted average is calculated taking into account the following criteria: sum total of the credits achieved, each multiplied by the value of the corresponding qualification, according to the table below, and this is divided by total number of credits achieved from the corresponding teaching.

Table of equivalencies:
pass: 1
good: 2
excellent: 3
with distinctions: 4

The recognised subjects have an equivalence of 1, the adapted ones have the qualification of the centre of origin, failing that they are not taken into account for the purposes of weighting. Those recognised without qualification are also not taken into account for the purposes of weighting.

Royal Decree 1044/2003, of 1 August, single additional provision, partially amends the second paragraph of section 1.5 of annex AND of Royal Decree 1267/1994, of 10 June, as follows: the recognised subjects will have equivalence in points corresponding to the qualification obtained in the centre of origin; for the adapted subjects the qualification or qualifications will be calculated as obtained in the centre of origin and the recognition of credits where there is no qualification will not be taken into account for the purposes of weighting.

The criterion established by Royal Decree 1044/2003 will be applied to students who present applications for recognition of subjects with effect from 12 September 2003, the date on which this Royal Decree comes into effect.

Old Syllabuses or not reformed
The arithmetical mean is calculated according to the following criterion: the sum total of the qualifications of the subjects passed converted according to the table of equivalencies mentioned above, and the division of this sum among the total number of subjects passed. In the case of four-month or six-month subjects, duly indicated, the calculation will be of half of the qualification in the sum total and half of the subject to be divided.

University courses studied abroad
Students who have studied university courses abroad that have been recognised under the Spanish university system will be given an arithmetic mean taking into account the abovementioned criteria and the tables of equivalencies of the MECD (Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport) for the secondary courses of each country.
When the equivalence has a value of 6.5, this qualification will count as a pass grade.

The criteria for allocation of places through this access path are:
1st mean of academic record
2nd preferences applied for
