With the universities of Catalonia towards the Europe of knowledge

Accommodation

As a student who has to move away to study, you have several options: halls of residence, residences, flats, apartments, a room in a shared house or youth hostels, as well as other initiatives that support access to housing.

You need to be careful, there are some operators who, on the payment of a fee, offer accommodation services which, once the fee has been paid, turn out not to be real. We recommend you to find accommodation through the universities or the services that the Generalitat of Catalonia offer.

The main resources available are:

  • The accommodation services of the Catalan universities offer their students information and assessment for finding housing in diverse modalities: halls of residence, flats to rent, flats to share, rooms, etc.
  • Barcelona Housing Services for Students is the reservation centre for Barcelona Centre Universitari which, in collaboration with Resa, aims to offer accommodation to foreign students and teachers.
  • The Borses Joves d'Habitatge offer guidance and mediation for rented flats for young people.
  • Students' residences offer accommodation to students and young people who work. They usually allow people to have long stays and offer a "full board" regime or right to use the kitchen.
  • The halls of residence only accept university students. Some of them depend on the universities, in this case, only students registered at the corresponding university can access them.
  • The Viure i conviure (Living and sharing) programme is organised by diverse institutions: Caixa Catalunya, the Town Councils of Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, Tarragona, Cerdanyola del Vallès and Vic and the universities of Barcelona, Autonomous University of Barcelona, Polytechnic of Catalonia, Pompeu Fabra, Ramon Llull, Girona, Lleida, Rovira i Virgili and Vic. Their object is to promote and facilitate solidarity relationships and mutual help between two generations (the elderly and young students).
  • The compartir-habitatge.net website puts young people who want to rent a room in contact with owners who want to partially let their property, or young people who have rented a flat and want to sublet a room to another young person. Its area of action is mainly the Barcelonès region.
To be able to access all the possibilities that are on offer, you should register as a user of the service. The service is completely free of charge.
  • The organisation Amics de la Llar, recognised by the Department of Well Being and the Family, puts elderly people who live alone in contact with young people who come to study in Barcelona. It offers free accommodation in exchange for company.
  • Barcelona allotjament offers accommodation in Barcelona in family houses, shared flats, apartments and studios. This is a service aimed at: higher level and university students, teaching staff and professionals who want to study or do practical work experience in Barcelona.
  • At the organisation Habitatge Jove and the website lloguerjove.com, which manage accommodation for young people in diverse modalities, you can find useful offers for students.
  • At the Generalitat de Catalunya website you can consult information about housing.
