Architectural heritage and tourist attractions:

Sort: the capital. Church of Sant Feliu (17th century), ruined castle of the counts of Pallars. Adventure sports centre. Nearby villages of Llessui, Enviny, Altron, Espui, with a small Romanesque church.

Alins: Capital of the Vall Ferrera, surrounded by high peaks —Pica d'Estats, Sotllo, Monteixo— and glacial corries with lakes —Baborte, Baiau, Sotllo, Estats. Nearby hamlets: Àreu, with the wood museum, Ainet, Araós, Besan, Tor.

Alt Àneu: (351 h) municipality created by joining Isil, Son, Sorpe and València d'Àneu, the capital. Glacial corries with lakes: Gerber, Cabanes, Isil (Airoto and others). Romanesque churches: Sant Joan d'Isil, Alòs d'Isil and Isavarre.

Espot: gateway to the Aigüestortes National Park and Sant Maurici lake. Superespot winter sports resort.

Esterri d'Àneu: capital of the Vall d’Àneu . Ecomuseum.

Gerri de la Sal: near Collegats narrows (famous Argenteria rock). Old salt deposits, magnificent Romanesque church of Santa Maria (1149), once part of an old Benedictine abbey. Outlying hamlets of Montcortès de Pallars, near the lake of the same name, Peramea, Baén, Espluga de Cuberes.

La Guingueta d'Àneu: near Torrassa reservoir. Outlying hamlets of Unarre, Jou, Escalarre or Escaló, Romanesque churches of Santa Maria d'Àneu and Sant Pere del Burgal, old monasteries; the notable mural paintings are now kept at the MNAC (Museum of Catalan Art, Barcelona).

Lladorre: at the head of the Cardós valley, Certascan (the largest in the Pyrenees), Mariola, Naorte, Romedo, La Gallina lakes. Plans de Boavi. Outlying hamlets of Tavascan (cross-country skiing resort), Aineto, Boldís, etc.

Llavorsí: at the centre of the comarca, adventure sports centre. The church of Baiasca, to the north-west, with Romanesque mural paintings.

Rialp: in the south, defensive tower and old houses of great character. Downhill skiing resort of Port Ainé. Romanesque church in the hamlet of Surp.

Ribera de Cardós: capital of the Cardós valley. Magnificent Romanesque church with three-storey bell tower. Outlying hamlets of Esterri de Cardós, Ginestarre, Ainet de Cardós, Lladrós, Estaon (outstanding mural paintings from some of them are now kept at the MNAC, Barcelona).

Soriguera: in the south. Romanesque church in the hamlet of Vilamur, Mare de Déu d'Arboló sanctuary, perching above the river, fine Romanesque building (mid 12th century), of reddish stone.
